A Story : Yonna

“But I thought we are close?” Austin look at me with pleading eyes. I can hear Alana snickered behind me. Elle and Lynne stays still and quiet, pretending they aren’t there witnessing everything. I ignore Alana.

“You thought wrong. I care for you as a friend. No more than that.” The words flow without the tiniest hesitation like I had said it a hundred times before. Which I probably must have. I turn to pick my books and walk off leaving him standing there.

“How many more times are you going to do this?” Alana asks.

“You sound like I planned it to be this way, Alana.”

“You didn’t?”

“No, I didn’t!” I protest. “It just happened, OK? I thought he was the one. And then I found out he isn’t.”

“So, what type of guys is “the one”?” She challenges.

“That, I will know once I met him.”

Actually, I met him. There he was. Out of the corner of my eyes, I can see him. Just over that bench over there. But there is no way I would tell people about it. Not even to Elle, my own twin sister. ESPECIALLY NOT to Elle. Because one, Elle knows him and he knows Elle. They worked together in a class project the previous semester. And two, he is the kind of guy who would never like me. Not in a zillion years. I may have a long line of guys trying to get to me, but definitely not this guy. Which is why I keep it as my very own little secret. The fact that I have a crush on someone who won’t even look my way is plain embarrassing.
